My in- home provides a small daily written report: how much they ate at each meal, diaper changes, any supplies needed, nap times and how they feel that day: happy, fussy and so on. I will also chat very briefly with the providers at pickup and ask questions. They will also volunteer information as things come up.

The teachers generally 'learn' how much information to give each parent over time. Some parents brush teachers off and prefer not be held up during the evening rush. Feel free to ask questions and this will cue the teachers that you're a family who enjoys a bit of conversation. - Director

Ours provides info through Tadpoles about how much lunch she ate. They don’t say a ton at drop off because any teacher could go get her. Before COVID it was easier to have a convo about her day. But they’ll always patch me through to her room to talk to her teacher if I have a question, or I can schedule a time to have a longer conversation.

At DD's daycare they do typically give more info, especially on the first day. If another caregiver brings her put yes they won't be able to say much. But after a couple of days you should know if that is it. They may be stressed out with other kids and wanting to get back soon.

Maybe the person “delivering” him to you at the front door wasn’t the caregiver who was with him in the classroom all day, so you are getting a generic answer. Do you have a way to communicate directly with his classroom teacher? Maybe email or directly through the app? I am not familiar with brightwheel but there has to be some way to contact his main caregiver. In these covid times providers should be providing multiple avenues of communication

Ask those questions. They are paid very little and won’t go out of their way for you, the parent. I have to ask for the info.

I'm curious how much info/feedback your child care providers offer you, aside from the details that are in the Brightwheel app or their equivalent tracking system. Specifically, we took our kiddo for his first few days of daycare last week (he's 6 months old), and when I picked him up after his first day I only got a "He did pretty well," when I asked how it went. They did not seem interested at all in giving me more info, which as a first-time mom leaving her kid for the first time I didn't love. Because of COVID they do the drop off/pick up with the door open so I understand not wanting to have a prolonged chat every day, so maybe this is normal? Or they don't want to give too much feedback until he's had more time to settle in? Am I being a semi-neurotic new parent or am I being too forgiving and should ask for more details (did he cry? did he "talk" with you like he does us? how'd he react to his first time seeing multiple kids in one place, thanks pandemic?).
