This has become the site of rumors and misinformation. OP, may I ask why you haven’t contacted the school? Surely they can answer this one.

AIM6 is not the same as AMP6+. AIM6 is the AIM class they've had in the past for kids after compacted math, leading to Algebra in 7th. AMP6+ covers 6th grade and half lf 7th grade math, followed by AMP7+, which covers the rest of 7th and all of 8th, followed by Algebra in 8th. The AMP6+ and AMP7+ classes are a curriculum put together by LearnZillion (compacting their normal 6-8 classes into two years). AIM was designed by MCPS.

I just looked at 7 different middle schools and saw: 2 schools offering Math 6, 6+, and AIM for next year's 6th graders; one that listed 6+ and AIM only; two that listed 6 and AIM only; one that listed 6 and 6+ only; and one that listed 6+ and 7, which was weird. It's clearly not being done the same at each school.

Long time ago, my son took 4th grade math in second grade. The next year MCPS said no more acceleration. If we had stayed in MCPS, he would have taken 4th grade math 3 times in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. We left after 3rd. We were never even told he was repeating it in 3rd until we saw the test scores and pressed the teacher. He came back to MCPS for TP Magnet.

Since this is an anonymous board, I'll say that I, as the parent of a current 5th grader, have spent more time than I care to admit poking around on the websites of various middle schools to see what they are telling rising 6th graders. Our home MS showed AIM remaining as an option, although they emphasized that would be based on county recommendations and that there would likely be students currently in compacted math that would be recommended to the new Math 6+ class instead (which is followed by 7+ and then Algebra in 8th). I've seen some other middle schools that show AIM, and I've seen a few that don't seem to have AIM listed at all and would seem to direct compacted students into Math 6+ instead. So I think it's still up in the air and dependent on each middle school, as well as what recommendations they get from the elementary schools and county. The review of all 5th graders for magnet admissions is happening this month and should also include recommendations on advanced middle school math, and I imagine that will impact what schools do as well.

Our middle school is calling it math6+ for those who were in compacted then they would take math 7+ and algebra in 8th. But it looks like math 6+ is still math 6, just more in depth. Also these kids will end up being a whole year behind in math by high school.

You've been told by whom? Who told you this?

My MS requires kids to meet certain criteria for AIM; DS was in compacted math in elementary but did not meet other criteria (MAP scores), so was put into Math 7 for this year; he will do Math 8 next year and then Algebra in 8th.

My middle school told me this. My ES didn’t know yet.

Who told you this? Our MS is offering AIM6 as per their presentation a couple of weeks ago, and my child was already assigned to AIM6 as per teacher recommendation.

I think it is up to the school, but I am not positive about that. That seems pretty unfair for the kids that are ready for IM!

I noticed that too on the middle school presentation. I haven’t talked to the school yet but I’m so fed up, we are moving to private for middle school.

Due to COVID and learning losses, I've been told that MCPS is focusing on remediation, and that all students (even those in currently in compacted math) will be taking Math 6 in 6th grade, Math 7 in 7th, and Algebra in 8th. (I have a compacted math kid who is going into 6th next year). Are all schools following this pathway due to Covid?
