What about their life was a fairytale other than the fact that they were very rich and lived in a fancy house? Seems kind of sad and devoid of intimacy (no close family, no children) to me.

I don't think it's much of a fairytale. They fell in love and got married and turned out to be miserable. The OP brought yup their supposedly perfect fairytale life, and no substantive comments about their decor.

AND THAT is what a fairytale ingredients are.. you start with princess.. king.. duchess.. what have you, throw in love, and then complicate the story and end in misery. Why some people confuse fairytale with happiness?
But their decor represents certain lifestyle of the era.

Maybe that was to help her keep thin? She is famous for surviving on a whisky and an egg a day and you don't need a kitchen
