You definitely need to get it fixed. Those pearly paints are expensive to fix hopefully they can blend it well. The dealer won’t do it, you need to go to a soft shop.

I almost bought a Soul Red Crystal CX-5, but folks on Reddit complained about the thin paint and chipping on the hood. Mazda is aware of the issue; might this fall under normal wear and tear?

I wouldn't fix it if you plan to lease or purchase another Mazda.

They are factory certified for a lot of different brands, although not Mazda. I had my Maserati fixed there when someone rolled into me at a stop light. The results were really good - could not tell it was fixed at all. They also fix Hyundais, so the price must be pretty reasonable. I don't know because insurance paid for my bill.

Also, there is no such thing as special paint, so don't worry about that.

Noooo not D&V. They did a crappy job on my car 4 years ago. Horrible.

I would take it to the body shop a PP listed and have it done properly there vs the dealership.

Someone damaged the drivers door on our brand new Subaru - left a gash dent and paint damaged. We only owned the car for 3 months, we were so pissed off.

Took it to Autobody Dimensions in Bethesda, they did an amazing job. It will take them to a week to properly paint and repair any damage. The door looks brand new. They use the official paint match from the automaker.

I highly recommend. However, it will not be cheap. It cost $2.2K to repair and repaint the door, plus the cost of an 8 day rental. We filed an insurance claim.

Any good body shop can match the paint and manufacturer. It isn't secret. Expect to pay 800-1200 bucks..

Second question, is this an urgent job to prevent rust or do scratches not rust that quickly? The only car I ever needed to have paint fixed on was a plastic Saturn!
