We put our dog in a baby onesie when she got spayed. It covered her stomach so she couldn't mess with the stitches. You could cut a hole for the tail but we didn't even bother. We just took it off for her to go to the bathroom. It should be easy to find a onesie in store somewhere.

Take a piece of cardboard or poster board, cut it into a circle, cut s smaller circle in the center, like a donut, then cut a v shaped wedge out so that you end up with a c shaped piece. Punch holes along the edges and lace with string. Tie and cut of excess. Punch holes in the smaller end of the cone and tie to the cat's collar. It won't last a long time, but it will get you through until you get something better.

I would say a little t-shirt or modified piece of clothing would work better. Our friends just had their dog spayed and did this at the recommendation of their vet.

Ask on your neighborhood listserv. I have a dozen cones kicking around my basement and I bet some of your neighbors do, too.

That's pretty awesome, but she's 6 pounds - pretty big. I don't know if she'll fit in a sock. But we will try.

Well, I try to minimize in-person trips to stores, etc. as much as possible - but I would go into a store if necessary, I can't seem to find any that even have one! Good idea to post on neighborhood list serve, though, I'll try that. I think I'd prefer the recovery suit like in the Amazon link, but I can't get one in time. I can't imagine a cone is going to work. This kitty is strong-willed, and also very very long.

I am pretty sure you didn't read past the title.

PP here - the point of the clothes is to cover the incision. You do not have to cut a hole for potty (if that it where the incision is)... you can just take the clothes off before going out. But seriously, google "recovery suit for dogs" and you will see what I mean. Good for you for spaying!

I never use cones. I put clothes on my dogs after surgery. You can google "recovery suits" for dogs, and probably have one next day from Amazon. Or if you have some clothes you want to get rid of, you can fashion them in to dog clothes. You can cut out a hole for tail, etc. Trust me on this. Dogs would rather wear a recovery suit (which will also keep them warm) than a cone.

My kitten wriggled out of his cone within 2 minutes of being home and there was no getting it back on him. Vet told us to keep it on him for a few days but he had other plans.

We have an appointment to have our kitten spayed tomorrow and I just found out that they will not supply a post-surgery cone, we have to bring one. We don't have one, and I can't find one anywhere to buy with curbside pickup. Amazon will take too long. Any ideas? This is our first cat and I actually am not entirely sure she needs a cone.
