What are your requirements for transportation and schools, do you care about either? How do you feel about 100+ y.o. buildings, do you enjoy them, tolerate them or strongly prefer a new build with lots of amenities? Are you open to a coop or condo only?

4th Ave is a huge, 4-6 lane divided road with lots of new, inexpensive apartment buildings that have been built in the last 5-10 years. It’s fine and convenient, but quite transient and not very charming. It’s close to park slope proper which is quite charming. All of the slope is nice and safe, relative to other parts of brooklyn. Avenues tend to be louder, yes, but it’ll be more building specific and location/window type etc will matter more. North slope is probably more convenient if closer to Atlantic terminal for subway access.

If you're seeking Park Slope neighborhood data on DCUM you really aren't ready to buy a place in New York.

Why not rent for a year and feel things out? Why Park Slope specifically?

Looking to buy in park slope and don’t know much about the different areas within park slope. There seems to be a lot around 4th ave. Is that area less desirable or more dangerous than east of 5th ave? How is the north slope named streets area? Is that preferable to more central slope around 1st or 2nd or the other way around? Are there any parts of the slope that feel more dangerous or have more non-neighborhood people coming in and out? Would you buy a place on the Avenue streets or is there more traffic and noise vs the horizontal streets? Thank you!
