And let's face it, much as I respect individual police officers I meet, on the whole, law enforcement is not doing a great job so far. We need more folks like violence interrupters, social workers, and other folks committed to addressing human needs. Spend money on improving social services rather than deploying the National Guard.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:They aren't police and aren't trained as police. They are soldiers.
Yep.
They are not law enforcement.

I would be fine with it. When we were heavily engaged in "quelling" Iraq, I often wondered why we left Chigao/Baltimore etc to be war zones. Sometimes the violence in the USA reaches emergency proportions and requires emergency measures. Yes, posse comitatus applies to the military--but the National Guard doesn't fall under posse comitatus and can be called up by the civilian authority in each state, or in DC Bowser. They could certainly be used to 'back up' the police to bring the gun violence and car jackings under control. We are already dealing with a monster virus. Enough is enough.
You should reconsider where you get your news if you think Chicago and Baltimore are "war zones." Chicago isn't even in the top 50 of US cities in murders per capita.
