Just find a new doctor. Unless you and your husband can spend more than half a month at an Air B and B in your old city for appointments. It seems like a giant logistical and financial stress which doesn’t help with TTC. If it’s close to commute back and forth a few days a week for appointments (like DC to Baltimore) you could do that more easily. But yeah IUI is no big deal and doesn’t have a lot of complexity so I’d go with a new doctor and office where you are moving to.

I would do the IUI at a local clinic you would select if you needed IVF, unless you liked your RE so much you'd go to him/her for the IVF too, because there is a decent chance you will need IVF.

There might be a way for your RE to consult but that seems like overkill for an IUI.

You can do this, mostly if you have a flexible schedule where you would be able to come back for appointments, particularly the last week or so when you’ll be going a few times a week. You will of course incur travel and housing expenses during this time that you normally would not and would need to be sure your spouse could either come with you or travel in in time for the procedure and less you freeze sperm ahead of time.

If you are paying out of pocket, you could avoid travel if you find a local clinic or gynecologist who would do vaginal ultrasound and monitoring as needed if you don’t want to travel back. Perhaps your current doctor has some contacts or thoughts on this.

However, the most straightforward and easiest route would be if you find a new clinic in the region you move to. I know it is not an ideal for you bc you like your doctor, but TBH, IUIs are not extremely complicated or difficult for doctors to do. They’re like the “gateway” for infertility and most clinicians spend more time conducting IUI cycles than anything else. You can talk with a new doctor about how you liked the protocol for your first cycle and see if he or she agrees with that approach (or suggests something different since time, health, age etc. can alter a course needed even if you’ve already done it before).

I’m moving out of the area right as my husband and I are ready to start trying to have another baby. We needed IUI for the first, it was straightforward and simple and we LOVED our RE. We always planned to just go straight to IUI again but will now be out of state. Has anyone done IUI at a clinic out of state? How does it work? Alternatively, do RE’s ever “consult” with another practice/doctor? I’m not sure what’s reasonable to request but we’re confident our doctor’s care was why the IUI was so successful, as I had seen other RE’s prior (unsuccessfully obviously). We don’t have insurance for IUI and I wouldn’t want to spend the money without knowing my doctor was atleast overseeing/approving of my care. Wondering if/how others have handled this.
