At the same time it's tough because my K kid has hit a wall going back to virtual school after Christmas and is acting out more every day when we try to force it. That's why I'm not immediately saying "I changed my mind and we're staying virtual."

That 80% of the schools in America are open in some format and they don't want to be in the minority with struggling kids anymore? Pretty easy decision.

Yeah, but they are the areas with highest spread now, too. So you can't say that there's no evidence open schools are causing more spread. it is the opposite. Open schools means higher spread in your county.

It’s between them and Howard county.

Agree. Let me ask a question? Given what we know about the BOE and teachers' concerns about returning to the buildings, and in light of the fact that there is little appetite for a hybrid model that involves concurrent teaching or any delivery method that would require any teacher or family to opt of in person and continue virtual, wouldn't it it just be easier to come up now and at minimum call it for the year at least, if not next fall too? The debate is exhausting and is creating such bad blood on both sides.

Asked and answered. Some people are finally understanding that the educational deficiencies of indefinite virtual instruction are not appropriate given the evidence of limited transmissions at schools.

Yeah well, now Frederick is at something like 75 cases per 100k, 9% positivity, and CDC predicts the more contagious British variant will become dominant in March. Not sure evidence from places that met the "old" metrics in the fall apply here.

As a parent I'm just livid to be put in the position of deciding whether to fail my kid, or risk our health and contributing to the pandemic at its height. Why NOW? Why couldn't he have had a few months of in person classes in the fall, so he wouldn't be hitting this wall with virtual now?

Ugh, I hate that they are even next to my county because people commute through and stop to shop. They will just spread it.
