Seems like clubs would just keep players where thy are but then it becomes a cycle of playing in a set level

It is not perfect, but the player moved up normally a standout in his previous team. And improvement normally come out form extra training outside of team practice. If a player is on the "better" side of the team but not a standout, it is more likely there will be no change.

What if you are at the U14 level and there are clearly 3-4 B teams players who would be starters for the A team? How do you handle that ? 2 of the B team players regularly play with the A team and get regular minutes with them. At what point do you just move them up? Do you cut any A team player or move them to B team?

My kid's evaluation was two weeks ago I'd say and it was a very detailed written evaluation along with a 45 minute zoom call where the three of us spoke for about 30 minutes and then the coach and I spoke for about 15. Talked about anything and everything.

Yea ds has his evaluation for each season at the beginning, middle, and end. It’s pretty basic stuff, but to be fair it’s true, things like — “be more vocal”, “ shoot more when you have the chance”, “ what are your goals for this season? Have you accomplished any?” We invested in a private coach for him and those feedbacks are much more often and in-depth. But then again... it cost much more than even the club fees cost

My kid had one this week. Not impressed with feedback. High level. Felt corporate and check the box-ish. Then again not impressed with coaching staff in general, so about what we expected.

In my experience, a significant growth spurt or outside training with the TD's program have helped players to get to that next level.

you're right. if you move one player from B to A, then the rest of the B parents start complaining. what are you supposed to say to them... that one player was 1% better then all the rest?

paying customers will just leave and they don't want that. so better to keep everyone at the same level. if a player from outside joins, then they can be on the A team without the drama from parents.

1. you're only moving up if someone else is moving down
OR

2. there is an empty roster space and a coach thinks a player on the next lower team can legitimately contribute
OR

3. rosters expand from U10 to U11 (12 to 16) and from U12 to U13 (16 to 18) so those are your only other chances to move up

OR you're never moving up no matter what is said - actions speak louder than words. switch clubs.

Ours does. Zoom meeting. Specifics of what to work on and likelihood of moving up or down next year.

If you don't get an official evaluation, email the coach directly and ask what your players strengths and weakness are.

Do clubs give much player feedback to families like:
Player weaknesses, strengths, likely to move up team or down, trajectory.
Our club says they do on website but they don’t actually do it.
How do you get an honest assessment. Hearing “your kid has potential”
sounds nice but is not helpful other than as a sales pitch.
