We had the tripp trapp and my 5 year old is still in it. Had to get a second identical one for the baby as she is prone to jealousy. I like that there is no plastic (past the baby stage) and it matches the rest of our furniture.

Get a booster and tell your nanny that's the setup you'd prefer to use. The Fisher Price one is fine and you can probably get one used for like $5.

Booster seats are like $30. I don’t understand the concern with getting one instead of a second high chair? I went to a booster seat as fast as I could get rid of a high chair. They have a extremely low footprint (fit an existing chair), are cheap and ugly doesn’t matter as you don’t really see them.

Yeah I agree with pp that no 3 year old will want to be in a high chair. But the stokke Tripp trapp used mostly as a chair but with just the front plastic part left on around his legs (we have the back part and straps removed we actually never used the straps) is perfectly fine for my large 3 year old and would serve the nannies purpose of the toddler fight of up and down up and down at the table

That might be a good idea. It can be used as a in between chair for the older child and the baby can take the joovy.

No way my 3 yr old would stay in a high chair. Your nanny wants them in a high chair because it requires less supervision, per se, if they are strapped in. But many 3 yr olds won't stay put and can climb out making high chairs more dangerous than helpful.

I really think the tripp trapp purchased used (facebook marketplace, local listservs, they are always listed since they last through multiple kids) is really what you want. It looks nice at our table, has a small footprint, my 3 year old is still sitting in it and will be for a long time (he still has just the front bar from the babyset around his legs because then he doesn't stand up all dinner, but soon we will take that off and he will use it as a regular seat). We skipped the booster entirely, and went from high chair to a taller "junior chair" (ikea urban), to a stool.

Three is very late for a high chair. My kids are less than 2 years apart and #1 was in a booster before #2 was born. He went right from a high chair to a booster (with a tray). Also remember #2 will not use the high chair right away. I would try to skip this second high chair rather than skipping the booster.

But then, every kid I've known has gone to a booster - a three year old can't just sit in our regular chairs, the table would be at his chin. What's the earliest a kid sits in a regular chair? Gotta be at least four or so right? So I'm hoping for a high chair that would get me through until that age.

^opps, I see you already have one. FYI, your child will likely be climbing in and out of it around 2 or so independently which pretty much means they are too old for a high chair. No one is putting a 5 yr old in a high chair.

Your youngest will be 2 and can use a booster by the time your baby is needing a high chair and eating solids..

You are really better off buying a booster seat rather than a 2nd high chair.

Ordinarily, I'd do a bunch of research, but I'm 9 weeks pregnant and SO tired, I'm just going with crowdsourcing. Any help you can give I'd appreciate.

Our second will be 19 months younger than our first, so we're going to need a second high chair. For some logistical reasons I won't get into, we'd like to buy the second high chair now.

These are our non-negotiables:

1) Will grow with a child. We're hoping to be able to skip the booster seat and go right from this high chair to a regular chair, just to avoid buying ANOTHER thing.
2) Will fold for storage (but not necessary day to day)
3) Is easy to clean
4) Will last through a few kids (we'll at least want a 3rd, and a 4th isn't off the table).

Bonus points for:
5) Doesn't have an enormous footprint
6) Doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
7) Isn't ugly

We currently have a Joovy Nook - folds, looks great, should last till the kid is 5, but is somewhat annoying to clean and has a pretty enormous footprint. We're not categorically opposed to another Joovy Nook, but there might be a better option!
