Yep. Gird yourself for battle. I said my will is stronger than theirs and we’ll master this! I was calm and patient but unrelenting. And then they were trained! Dh didn’t have the willpower to see something through like that. Once you know they physically can do it (and she’s 22 mo she can do it!) just do it!

Isn’t it pretty cold to do no bottoms in January? My older sister with lots of kids advised me to wait until spring to do that kind of potty training. DD was nearly 3 in May of that year, and got it in 2 days...and wasn’t freezing when she was doing the “naked dance,” as we called it!

Not my kid at 3! Started at 3 and it took over six months. No issues except he didn’t want to use the potty and had no problem playing in wet or pooped pants.

OP - it's a new skill. And like everything else with kids, some get it in a couple days and some take longer.

Never give up on your child after 1 day. That's not sending the right message.

Are you doing Oh Crap? I would recommend reading that book and following it to a "tee".

I know a lot of kids with constipation issues from training too late. And it’s gone on for years now

DD is 23 months and we started training this weekend, with pretty much the same results. I'm going to keep at it for a few more days. DS was 2.5yo when we started with him, so I'm not in a terrible rush.

It is frustrating when she goes just minutes (sometimes even 30 seconds!) after the last visit to the potty.

Not my oldest. We started at 3 and it went on until he was almost 4 (needing a diaper to poop). My two younger boys trained before two in a couple days. I’m so sorry I waited for that “readiness bullsh*t” with my oldest.

Plus why have your child sit in urine and poop for a full year longer than he has to?

Keep going op! I guarantee if you go for 5 days it will be way better. Mine peed nonstop for 2 days and then something clicked on day 3. Keep going!

NP here. I’ve potty trained my three kids plus five others when I was a nanny. Younger, under two, is easier and less stressful for the child.

OP, keep going. Stop putting her on the potty and you catch one pee - then give praise and rewards. Keep reminding her that pee and poop go in the potty.

Watch her like a hawk and catch even one drop of pee in the potty and celebrate! My older DD trained herself at 22 months after watching a friend pee in her potty and that was that. My DS trained at 22 months with Oh Crap in about three days - he was 22 months. It’s so worth the stressful ( for me) three days.

22 months is pretty young. While it’s possible, I personally would wait. Why the rush?

Decided to start potty training my 22 month old since she was showing interest but day 1 seems like an epic fail. We are doing exactly what we did with our older child who was closer to 3 so maybe she just understood more - no bottoms/nude from the waist down and sitting her on the potty every 15 mins to try to go. We are also rewarding her with an m&m for any pees or poops on the potty.

So far she has NOT peed in the toilet once... she literally goes on the floor in between when we put her on the potty. Seems like maybe she is holding it when we put her on the toilet vs going.

Does this mean she just isn’t ready yet and we should take some time off and try again? Or do we just keep trying an putting her on every 15 mins. and eventually she will get it?
