DD turns 5 later this month. We've done 2 huge parties before for her (her first birthday and her 4th last year), but she doesn't even seem to care about it this year, really. I might pick up some cupcakes for her class at daycare, but we just aren't comfortable hosting friends and extended family this year.
We usually get invited to 10-12 parties a year. We haven't received an invitation to one in the past 10 months. Several of her friends have had Zoom calls instead.

+1. Same! It’s not just the expense of hosting birthday parties every year but the expectation that we attend a birthday party seemingly every weekend. It’s wasteful and unnecessary. My kids we’re both happy this year with cake, presents, no homework, and their choice of birthday dinner.

We celebrate with immediately family in our house.

I have hosted two outdoor bday parties at my house - one in Dec. and one in Jan. I plan them at the last minute so I can see how the weather is looking. I allowed my daughter to invite 4 friends & my son to invite 5 (just worked out that way). Each mini party for 1.5 hours & I said in the invite that I wouldn’t be serving food so the kids could stay masked the whole time & then I sent everyone home with cupcakes and hot cocoa bombs for the whole family as the favor.

For adult birthday, we went to the Caribbean. But is this for adults or kids?

For an adult birthday we drove to WV for dinner. I needed out of this damn house.

Trip to indoor Waterpark as a family.

I'd still be pretty cautious about company, especially a sleepover. We kept things pretty minimal through the holidays, which was rough because of grandparents, but there's some health problems in the family so it was a no brainer. Our kids have done a few zoom calls with friends on the computer (with varying results and levels of interest), but we're still being very careful about having company over for the kids. The recent spike in cases just makes it too risky.

With a cake and takeout at home. Best friend dropped by with a gift, outside visit, masked.

Taking all her friends to NYC for the weekend. The City is mostly open again.

I only know one family doing sleepovers, and they are all recovering feom Covid right now. Started with the sleepover kid. So no for us. We are going to celebrate with the four of us.

I was surprised to see my friend host a sleepover. It was only the best friend. Now I am wondering if it would be ok to do a sleepover or a ski trip (house or condo) with one friend.
