Well, there was the black face thing. He's pretty ineffective in general and not charistmatic at all. And he has totally botched Covid IMO. He should have been more restrictive on people's activities and prioritized getting kids back in school. He's also totally botched the vaccine rollout.

Why would any of those things be a reason to vote republican? Republican governors have done all those things too.

OP, you seem not so bright. Northam is moderate - if you dont want anyone to the left of him, then maybe you’re a Republican.

I’m not a Northam fan, but OP is clearly someone who has little knowledge of Northam or his policies and probably parroting something s/he heard. I would let this thread die.

Most of what you posted is personal to Northam and isn’t about politics. As for the COVID response, his plan was more in line with what the Republicans wanted, not the Democrats. If you want a stronger response to close down businesses and reopen schools, you need someone further left, not right.

All of the Republican candidates so far are MAGA. Kirk Cox is trying to scrub the internet of evidence of his support for Trump, but you can still find it in cached versions.

Also the general assembly is very far right. If we don’t have a democratic governor, we will get all sorts of awful laws passed. Say what you want about Northam but he saved us a lot of trouble with his veto power.

As your question, I think we could get a normal Republican. But maybe not. It’s hard to say because it seems like a lot of republicans are fed up with maga stuff right now, and many in northern Virginia have never been Maga types

There aren't any anymore. Either they're maga types, or they tolerated maga types out of expediency or fear, or they're former Republicans.

In a way I agree. They were completely complicit and I think remaining in the Republican Party is a morally bankrupt thing to do. However, a lot of republicans oppose, in theory, Trumpism, and their legislative record is more in what would traditionally called moderate.

Kirk Cox is in the race for the governor and I would not call him a Maga type. In fact the GOP changed their method of nominating a gubernatorial candidate so that they won’t get a trumpet in the race.

But I sure as hell hope we get a Democrat.

I didn't say he was too far left.

But you don't want anyone left of him according to your OP. You can't really nominate anyone further RIGHT of him and still be a dem.

Sorry, “not crazy” is no longer a feature you can order in a Republican

The general assembly is dem as of last year, not far right like a pp said

I was just on a call last night with a few of the D candidates for gov and lt gov. I liked what McClellan had to say. She sounded pretty reasonable to me.

I will absolutely consider voting for the Democrat if he/she is moderate. However, I'd like an actual choice between two candidates and not be forced to vote for a D I'm not fond of just because the R is certifiably insane.

Well we would all like that, but sadly in Virginia the governor doesn’t have a ton if power.

I’m a moderate Dem but I’ve had enough of Northam. I know he can’t run but I’m wary of voting for someone else like him, or worse to the left of him. Any chance the GOP will run someone moderate or will it definitely some MAGA type?
