Maybe. Maybe they just needed some breathing room.

Maybe they were waiting to see if trump was successful?

No. That’s not it.

I think they were waiting to see if he'd be 25th Amendment'ed. A letter still would have been issuing - but affirming the legitimacy of Acting President Pence and transition to President Biden.

I am looking forward to inauguration. Trump is going to be so jealous of all the military presence Biden is going to have at his back.

Thank god. It’s sad that they needed to say this, but it’s a strong and reassuring statement.

It tells me that there are commanders who are concerned about how their soldiers and sailors perceive what happened at the Capitol. The fact this statement needed to be released bothers me more than anything.

I wish the GOP leadership would just dump Trump.

Yup. I’ve been *almost* positive that there was no way the military would follow Trump off this crazy cliff we are on - but the fact that they felt they had to issue this statement feels scary.

It means there was an active plot and the military generals issued a warning to the conspirators that they won't go along with it. Notice that they issued it after markets closed and while Trump is in the air from his Texas trip.

This is all on the hands of Republicans who decided to go along with Trump's plot or looked the other way. Sh#t is about to get very heavy for the GOP elite.

I actually prefer they issued this statement to be totally and completely clear whose side is legitimate and who they will follow. The elected Commander-in-Chief not some fat fascist despot.

It still remains to be seen whether Gen. Hokanson was complicit.
