I didn’t tell him until I was ready for my younger DD to meet my-then BF (now DH). We’d dated a year. Older DD was legally an adult. In contrast, my XH would go out with a woman twice and tell younger DD that the woman was his fiancée.

I can't believe the people who are saying never. Even if you don't have/want any kind of relationship with your ex, presumably your kids still do. If the kids will be meeting the new SO, the ex should know that because they are in a position to parent regarding this issue. The kids may have feelings on the new SO that they are not comfortable sharing with the involved parent but may want to discuss with the ex (who is, after all, their other parent and should know about major events in their child's life).

When we're about to have sex - probably after about a month of dating.

Yes. I told my kids they would be meeting my partner. I didn’t tell my ex. It’s none of his business. My ex doesn’t play a role in my relationship with my kids or my new partner, so I wouldn’t involve him.

I would only say a word if I was introducing my kids. But I would not introduce my kids unless I was dating more than a year AND considering marriage. If marriage was not being discussed, I would not introduce my kids at all and then no reason to tell the ex.

If kids area involved, before kids meet the person.
