If you stay in 22205, 22201, 22207 or 22203 I think the schools will be pretty decent. Of course there are schools that will be absolutely fine in the less fortunate areas of the south of arlington, but with the fact that we are virtual right now and kids may not even be in the classroom full time in September 2021 I would be careful. Folks, I appreciate your input. This has been really informative. I had no idea that this was the reality. We are middle class and education is important to us. Hoping to find the right mix.

Yes, pentagon city and crystal city are middle/upper middle class, but a lot of people in the low rise apartment buildings in 22204 got absolutely crushed by Covid. Many of them are recent immigrants and work in people facing jobs and shared household type situations. So the Covid spread in 22204 has been absolutely tragic on top of all of the lost work. Maybe of the people are not here legally and therefore cannot get benefits besides free school and healthcare. I am connected with a women in one apartment complex who was collecting staples like toothpaste, soap, diapers, wipes and Tp for 125 families just in her complex. This is not just one complex, but very common in 22204. It’s very, very sad. Anyway, how this results to schools is that the schools are more worried about feeding and clothing many of the students than they are about teaching.

What part of DC are you commuting to and what is your budget?

Hoffman Boston is about 50% free and reused lunch and Oakridge is about 20%. We are still in virtual Learning and no plan yet for the fall. I would he very worried that the kids at H-B have fallen even more behind their peers at other Arlington schools this Covid year due to internet issues, food insecurity issues and the overall effects of Covid.

We will be relocating temporarily to the area and hoping for a good school and easy commute to DC. The pentagon city area seemed to be working great for access to DC but we are not sure about the school zoned for it i.e. Hoffman Boston.
