DC has straight As in 9th and 10th grade so far and 2 APs last year (both 5) and in a magnet in MCPS, we think DC would get accepted but we don’t expect scholarship.
Only around 20 kids got the scholarship from her program each year

My 3 kids are older (graduated already) but 2 got b/k and 1 got presidential scholarship. All 3 went to MCPS magnets. They all had almost perfect scores.

I think it's harder than you think --- my friends with kids with scholarships have better stats (basically all As, more AP classes with better scores, and good extracurricular activities). It's hard to get into MD these days and even harder to get merit aid. If you want aid, you might need to try UMBC or live at St Mary's or MC.

OP I know this isn’t your question, but if your son plans to live at home anyway for a year, and money is an issue, think about MC for a year or two. It is a great idea for situations just like your son’s. There are a few honors opportunities within MC, and would save a lot of money so that even if he doesn’t get merit aid while at UMD, perhaps it would still be possible without a lot of debt.

The top of class in the science and tech programs in PG County public schools usually get Banneker Key.

I was asking BK scholarship winners.
From my observation it seems most are from magnet high schools.

Yes, HoCo schools are better than MoCo, overall.
