The difference is that there are no distractions in the classroom and he is able to go back and watch the recording if he doesn’t understand something.

It’s mostly the good teachers. But it’s also activities with friends (masked and outdoors), online gaming with friends, and other hobbies.

I think another part of it is my drastically reduced expectations. I am able to be calm because I am going easy on myself and them as far as productivity goes.

Middle schooler. He likes the extra sleep and time to play Minecraft. The school is doing an excellent job and he’s still seeing his friends virtually.

My kid is in high school - the school is doing a good job, he likes doing class in his pajamas, he likes the breaks, he likes not driving to school super early in the morning, he likes the schedule that he has more control over. I don't think he ever wants to go back!

I got my middle elementary kid and Ipod touch so he can facetime with friends/cousins. I also enrolled him in an online book club that he loves and in an outschool class. He's as happy as a clam.

Pod with one other family. Extra fun stuff like more art kits, legoes, etc. Great teacher.

We're homeschooling rather than DL, but I'd say that virtual math tutoring, online TaeKwonDo, and the game spikeball that grandparents happened to get them for Christmas 2019 have been three things that absolutely have helped us through the pandemic.

So, there are absolutely kids safely doing activities and playing sports.

My girls' school is doing an excellent job. My younger daughter freaked out emotionally at the beginning of the pandemic and her teacher came to our house and they sat on the driveway (10 feet apart with masks) and talked, and the teacher read her some books, and did a little homework together, and some magic tricks, told jokes, etc. She has been coming once a week SINCE MARCH.

I think that is keeping my youngest sane and thriving. Oldest is doing great.

Good teachers and involved parents. We make sure ours logs on, participates and does assignments. We check and verify assignments were done. No tutor but one parent he,ps a lot with math. We always supplemented prior.

what has made the difference? What (if any) extra activities, tutors, sports, etc has helped your child do well with DL? Is it all on the school doing an excellent job?
