Not the OP, but this looks really great. My child's experience has been that the online communities are very dogmatic and are geared toward supporting trans kids in unsupportive households. This is fine, but it means that a questioning kid in a supportive household is going to feel a lot of pressure to "pick a side" and to push back on any questions from parents or therapists.

I highly recommend Jeanni Jensen with the Washington Behavioral Medicine associates. She works primarily with gbtq+ teens/youth as well as gender identity questions.

You might try Miles Goldstein. We met with him through Abrams & Associates. I know he has dealt with adolescents who are LGBTQ.

It took us a year to get into Childrens (we finally got in during pandemic for virtual visits). It’s totally been better than nothing, but have also been looking for a private therapist with zero recommendations here.

Good to hear your experience with Children's was faster than ours! my child was on the wait list for over a year and a half, then aged out.

I hope you found a therapist/support you needed.

This is the PP, back with an update on Children's. We've been with Children's National pride clinic for a few months. It was slow to get 'in' initially but things picked up and were great. But now we're waiting weeks to try get a follow up for refill. It seems like they are severely resource limited, and our clinic appointments are always after hours.

We are now looking to switch to Whitman-Walker in DC.

Hmm, it shouldn't be more than few weeks. But, yes, that was the best we could find as all others specializing in GI we approached were not accepting new patients.

Depending on what you're looking for from a therapist, or your child's goals, you may find someone easily through www.psychologytoday.com Recommendations aren't worth much as as the relationship or dynamic between patient and therapist is totally unique. Let your child choose.

One good thing about the pandemic, is you can search far out of your local area as all are seeing patients virtually.

One of my kids has questions about gender identity. I know Children's National has therapists who specialize in that area, but the wait list is very long. Does anyone have a recommendation for a therapist for a teen in the DC area who wants to work through gender identity questions? Thanks.
