I used to buy one pair of jeans every year for my boys. They were never worn. Handed down with tags on. I haven't bought jeans in at least 6 years now.

Lee X-treme comfort is what my jean hating son will wear (from Kohls/Amazon.) They are relatively soft, have an inner adjustable elastic band with button closure (so they look like regular jeans) and have various cuts (regular, skinny, husky.)

Kids still wear jeans?

No. I don’t mean those adjustable waist bands. I mean the ones that have elastic throughout the waist like a toddler would wear.

I think this is a special Target brand. Most jeans (Old Navy, Gap, Childrens Place, Hollister, H&M, WalMart, etc, etc) are normal jeans.

Never seen them before. My DS wouldn't even try them on.

Sounds like maternity jeans but for tween boys. I'm sort of weirded out and but my inner slob hopes that this trends expands across demographics.

My DS likes some of the jeans from Hollister. Now that they cannot buy right off of shelf, the drama is getting into a changing room to see if they fit. LOL

Because kids these days like "soft" pants like sweatpants and joggers, which are basically the norm now. I think elastic waist jeans are an effort to accommodate that preference -- the boy verson of jeggings?

Certainly my son who is 7 prefers his elastic waist jeans.

Some kids have sensory issues.

There are plenty of jeans to buy that have a normal button/zip. Why are you complaining about this.

My 11 yo is built like your son, and actually prefers the awful elastic waist option. He like that the waistband is soft, and the button doesn't poke into him. The waistband is typically covered by a hoodie or other shirt, so I don't really care, but when we need "real jeans" I order these: https://www.landsend.com/products/boys-iron-knee-classic-fit-jeans/id_301347?attributes=36952,43307,43323,43384,44258,44371,44960

That doesn’t surprise me at target if you you are shopping in the kids section. What size does your son wear? Can you move over to the men’s section and just hem the jeans. My other suggestions would be Old Navy or gap.

Old navy has a ton of types and even some for the “husky” types. They are my go to.

I realize I haven't bought my 12 year old son jeans in over a year. I went to Target to buy some jeans and all the jeans had elastic waists- like the type he wore when he was 2-3 years old. Is this a new trend? The last jeans I bought him were Levin Denizens jeans which I think are the Levi jeans Target sells. He doesn't fit into super skinny jeans because he has thicker thighs and bum. He usually wears sweat pants. Any recommendations for boys jeans that are comfy, not super skinny, and don't have an elastic waist?
