It is but that is what the facilitators have allowed as they are taking huge fees for themselves. Same with adoption.

3) It took 3 tries to work (not her fault). No miscarriages thankfully but you do have to pay a fee for each transfer regardless of whether it works or not. Not every surrogate will want to stick around for so many transfers. We were lucky that ours was willing to continue working with us.

We used Meryl, too. Even if she isn't taking clients, send her an email on her website and I'm sure she'll give you other names

+1 we went with CSP in Annapolis and they’re great but it all adds up. It’s really insane. I kind of wish I had a relative to help me so I could just use an attorney and not have to go through an agency - I’m paying them 27,000 plus lots of other little expenses that add up. then 40k for the surrogate plus all her expenses plus lawyers fees, escrow fees, surrogates lawyer fees... I think it will end up being 120k, with our own embryos that were previously created (I can’t bear to add up all the IVF costs to create those embryos- I think I would have a panic attack).

Does the agency have to be in DMV? Agencies work with surrogates all over the country. I worked with an agency in the Midwest (lower rent= lower fees), but one of the surrogates in their pool was in MD.

Most lawyers/agencies will give you a free initial consult and discuss your questions, including pricing. Except for a single followup or two nobody bugged us about signing on after that initial meeting.

awesome thanks for the info. What was the total cost if you don't mind me asking. Over $150k?

Including the IVF costs we spent well over 150k.
We spoke to another lawyer in Chevy Chase, Diane Hinson. Shady Grove also recommended a place whose name I don’t remember but it was significantly more expensive than Meryl.

1. Recommended surrogacy agency in the DMV?
2. How much did you pay total for everything: agency + fees + surrogate. etc
3. Did it work on the first try? Did you have to pay surrogate if miscarriage or failed transfer?

Just getting started on the process and will surely learn a ton but thought I'd start here to get an idea. Thanks
