I still have parental controls enabled on my DC's kindle. I was thinking more of the lines of her not buying books willy-nilly, but I guess it's good for this too. I don' t know, I'd be ok with a kid checking anything out of a library, but there is some questionable self-published stuff on the internet!

OP, there is some seriously niche oddball stuff out there in Amazon smut land. I think you are wise to keep an eye on things.

I remember my parents stopping me from reading Clan of the Cave Bear when I was about that age. Of course that was after I had already finished reading it so not sure what the point was.

I'd stop my DS from reading anything explicitly sexual. That's for mature audiences and he's certainly not mature.

OP here. Honestly, I'm not comfortable with anything - I still remember him being 3 months old, but I know this is not realistic. Yes, he was reading full-blown erotica, but written by women. I guess it's better than p**n, I just need to figure out a way for him not to download weird stuff like sex with dinosaurs or other fetishes.

So happy my mom didn't make me stick to the teen section. I read adult books from a very early age. I am perfectly successful and happy in life, morals and relationships. Some things you need to let go and let them figure out their own limits and interests.

My kid is 12 and I still control what she gets using the FreeTime feature. I don’t limit what she gets, in particular, I just haven’t advertised she can check books out of the library past the teen section.

On Amazon Kindle, there's romance and then there's full blown erotica. I'd keep an eye on it.

I let my teens read what they want. Who cares if they read smut? They are teenagers with hormones. That doesn’t mean they will be unsuccessful or deviants. Reading on a kindle is not something I monitor.

OP here. I remember reading Émile Zola's Nana when I was about 14. My H is clueless, he was the playboy magazine generation. I just want to make sure he doesn't read some weird, self-published, misogynistic gross stuff.

When did your tween or teen became interested in romantic or sexual things? DS is almost 13 y/o and downloaded some pretty questionable romance books on his Kindle, albeit with great ratings. Is this normal? I need to call Amazon tomorrow to set up some controls, as I'm not able to do it on my end.
