We did it. The shot was more painful than others according to DC. There was some reluctance for the second dose because of that.

Please get it. I tried to get it when it came out. I was 28 and had had two sexual partners in my life and no abnormal paps to include the one they did that day. They refused to give it to me saying "its for young people you are too old and you have already been sexually active".

Within 5 years I had HPV and have had to have two surgeries and been so scared and devastated of what it meant for my future. I am so angry I did not fight for the vaccine. I was young and just took what they said as fact. I should have been given it, and would not have ended up in the situation I ended in (and yes, I always used protection and had only 4 partners all monogamous in my life). Please get this vaccine for you children.

One boy, one girl, both have gotten it. No side effects.

The consequences for not getting it are far worse than a sore arm.

I have a super needle phobic kid so I passed on it in middle school. I told her I would give her as long as I could, but that she would be getting the vaccine series before college. She was ready for it the summer before senior year and she had to get three shots instead of two because she waited so long to start the series, but she is finished with it now.

Both of my kids have gotten it, the first six years ago when it was still a 3 shot series and the second more recently with the current two dose regimen. Neither had any side effects.

All 3 of my kids have gotten it. The older 2 at 12 and the youngest at 9 (Dad took her to her 9 YO well check and that’s the youngest you can get it so they start pushing it. I didn’t even consider they would offer it so I didn’t mention it and he was like “sure” 🙄). All have been fine.

Yes get it. My two girls got it. No side affects. Treat it like all the other vaccines.

OP, I understand where you are coming from.
A couple years ago when it was my oldest DS time for the HPV vaccine, there were a ton of stories about adverse reactions and lives being ruined. It kind of scared me. So I researched the medical journals, and the rate of reaction to the vaccine was the same rate of reaction to the placebo.
I then asked my family doctor. She has two children, slightly older than my own. She advised getting the vaccine, said she had vaccinated her children.
My son is vaccinated, no issues.

Some people have concerns about fainting with it. That's not specific to HPV vaccine -- it's just common at that age with any shot, including the tetanus booster and meningococcal vaccination.

The science is clear that she should get it. If your reading didn’t make that clear I would be concerned about the quality of your sources.

DD and DS both got it. No concerning side effects. My son often has a mid fever after vaccinations.

I’ve honestly have never heard of any real downside. But my younger kid is about 5 years out. Anti-vaxxers are against it. People who just don’t want to deal with the idea their kids may one day be sexually active often push it off because they think their kids are way too young. Which is the point of getting it at 11-12.

What’s your concern, exactly? My default position is vaccinate unless their is a good reason not to. And a 100 degree fever for a day and my not liking the fact my kid could one day get an std aren’t good reasons to protect my kid from cancer.

Definitely get it. It’s the only vaccine I know of that can prevent a deadly cancer that’s both very easy to get and can be hard to detect before too late (cervical cancer).
