How old is he, pp?
What exactly are his shit choices? Is he flunking out of school? Messing with drugs and alcohol? Getting someone pregnant?
Really, you need to chill. See a therapist or something, maybe, get a prescription for anti-anxiety meds. If you kid is just 'lazy' and 'disrespectful', however you define these terms, you don't need Lord's help to survive 'his BS".
Unless your expectations for your child were to get into Harvard and it's not happening because he's playing Minecraft other than studying calculus, I don't see how this situation is oh-so-bleak.
It’s bleak, but bless you for thinking it’s my Harvard level expectations.
How dare he have issues with a smart, thoughtful mom like you.

I recommend a book that DCUM recommended to me, "Yes, your teen is crazy!" that book was my Bible for two years. I read it and then went back with a highlighter. I kept it by my bedside and would crack it open to the highlighted parts.
The best thing about it is it was a fun read, unlike any other parenting book I've read before or after.
