Maybe you are not aware that if you let a cavity get out of control with a very young child they need literal general anaesthesia to treat? Or if you're "lucky" and its a front tooth they will offer to pull it. Or you can take your kid to the dentist at their 1st birthday which is recommended.

Yep. My kid was born with a lack of enamel. We only found this out because one of the front two started to look gray so we went to the dentist to make sure he hadn’t bumped it or something. Four teeth pulled on the spot.

+1. Only benefits for very small relative cost. And yes, it’s not a filling.

Go to someone else. I had a dentist insist on "filling" a non cavity and described it like you did. Our pediatric dentist told me it is an upcharge scam. My kid is 20 and has never had a cavity. What she filled doesn't even show up on the xrays.

My son has milk bottle cavities treated with SDF. Yes it does turn cavities black but it does nothing to normal teeth. In my opinion I don't think the dentist is ripping you off because SDF is much cheaper than fillings. The SDF kept my son's cavities from getting worse. At the rate he was going he would have no front teeth by now. I would not wait. We waited a month between the first visit and the SDF application and in that time the cavities had gotten worse to the point my son needed x rays to make sure they didn't get to the root. The enamel in kid's teeth is extremely thin and cavities move fast. Your kiddo could very well have defect, and that is exactly where food will want to collect and a cavity will want to form.

The dentist isn’t even positive that it is a cavity. He even said it’s in a weird spot for a cavity, so it may be a tooth defect. It’s a tooth coloured hole in the very middle of his second right top tooth. I’m not sure if I should do the treatment, especially since the doctor doesn’t know what the hole is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Get a second opinion! When my dd was two the dentist told me she had lots of cavities etc but, I got a second opinion and the second dentist didn't agree. Never went back to the first. Five years later they contacted me! So, that told me enough.

When I was 11 or so a dentist told my mom I needed fillings in all my teeth. She got a second opinion. 20 years later I do not have fillings in all my teeth.
