I looked at houses in New Market and and Lake Linganore and they were all very outdated. They all needed facelifts and several thousands of dollars to be flipped.
My budget is 400-475K. My husband and work from home full time so I want a beautiful spacious home. All the SFH new builds in Urbana/Oakdale are school districts upwards of 750k.

Johnson is not a bad school at all. PP literally gave you their opinion based on a single number.

There's nothing wrong with Thomas Johnson. Compared to other schools in Frederick County, it has more black kids. Unfortunately, even in 2021, this makes the school less appealing to some. It's a fine school.

PP and Black poster here. Nothing wrong with Black students but I didn’t like the low test scores or the neighborhoods zoned for those schools

We’re in Frederick Co. In Middletown. Great neighborhood and great schools (GS 8 for elementary and high school, 9 for middle school).

Would not live in MoCo to send my kid to the cluster mentioned above and pay a premium for a tiny house just because it’s MoCo. Luckily I work in Rockville.

Didn’t look anywhere in FC outside of Middletown and Liganore cluster.

Landsdale just got redistricted to Linganore HS which has very very little diversity. If I were to move to Frederick I would only consider Urbana HS

+1 This. Or Urbana (you don't have to actually live in Urbana, homes in neighboring Monrovia are distracted to Urbana and closer to MoCo.)

Everybody wants these things. You have to make tradeoffs. If schools are important, you may need to live with an outdated kitchen or baths for a while.

Also, there are SFH zoned for Urbana that are new brand new and cost 750. Not 450, but there are homes in the 600 range.

Also look at Poolesville.

I don’t know down county but Gaithersburg is a great school but will never be ranked high because they have “trade school” options like car repair and ranking includes % that go to college, which is ridiculous.

+1 Good option. The only negative IMO of that area is that it's a bit too rural for me. But, if you don't mind that kind of living, Poolesville is a great choice. It's usually rated one of the highest in MD.

For me this would come down to the commute time and how important things like the MCPS special programs are to me (perhaps Frederick has some, don't know). Sounds like Frederick could be very doable!

Just curious how the average rated Frederick County schools compare to the lower ranked MCPS schools in terms of college readiness?

Basically my dilemma is I can afford a SFH I’m MoCo, but I’d be looking at Kennedy, Watkins Mill, Northwood, Gaithersburg, Wheaton HS clusters. If I moved to MoCo I would likely be in a tiny house. . Or I could get like a dump in Damascus and my child could go to their schools that are ranked 7 on Great Schools, which is over average for MoCo?

However I found that if I move out to Frederick I can get everything I want in a house. The schools are are 6 on GS (Yellow Springs, Monocacy, Gov Johnson). They also seem much more diverse than Wheaton and Silver Spring schools which I like.

Are the quality of the teachers better in MoCo?

I have friends who live in Frederick but commute to teach at MCPS cause they make much more money there over FCPS.
