I put the gifts under the tree in November! Santa is not a thing in our household. Plus, they can read and snoop through all the gift tags that are visible and not buried under other presents. They're surprised either way.

Last year I asked my 21 yo DS how he felt about me putting the gifts out early. He said he would miss coming downstairs in the morning and seeing all the wrapped packages for the first time. I’m happy to keep doing that for him!

There isn’t a right or wrong way, but...
Growing up my grandmother lived with us and insisted that presents be wrapped early and placed under the tree. She was such a stickler about it, and whoa unto you if you didn’t make it look special. The gift better have had some curly cues and coordinated bows. That didn’t include Santa gifts. Santa never wrapped our presents, they were just out already assembled Christmas morning.
To this day I probably go a little overboard on gift wrap, but it makes me think of her.
We’ve had a nice pile under the tree for almost 2 weeks now. My grandmother would have been proud.

We put "from family" presents (including those that arrive in the mail from grandparents) under the tree whenever they arrive and are wrapped. So there is a gradually accumulating pile starting in early December - helps build the anticipation, I think. Santa presents and stocking stuffers are added Christmas Eve after the kids are in bed.

OP here. I was reading the other thread about how the kids couldn’t sleep on Christmas Eve and it makes sense to put them under the tree the day before! I mean, the whole leaving Santa milk and cookie (which we have yet to do) would not work if the presents are already there.

Perfectly fine! Gifts from “Santa” are put down after kids go to bed on Xmas eve. But most people have other gifts under their tree before that: gifts from grandparents, aunts/uncles, spouses, and even gifts that parents give their kids.

We do, too. So did our parents. Santa doesn’t wrap and just leaves the gifts on Christmas Eve but the gifts from mom, dad, granny, nanny and uncle joe are wrapped and under the tree.

Gifts to/from each other we put under the tree after they're wrapped. Santa gifts come in the middle of the night.

Everyone does it differently. We did not put up a Christmas tree until the day of Christmas Eve. Then presents went under. We opened all presents together on Christmas Eve. (It's the German way though.) Christmas tree stayed up until Epiphany.

We don't even have a Christmas tree. Nobody will come into your house, inspect your christmas decorations, and fine you for doing it wrong.

Even after we stopped believing my parents put the presents under the tree when we went to bed. And it was magical on Christmas morning. The pile is spectacular! This is the first year we get to do it for our kids and I can’t wait.

There is no right way to do it. We sneak them in on the night between 24th and 25th. It’s fun to see the kids run to the tree to see what Santa brought them. But I also know many who put them there days before. It’s fun either way.

I always like the way it looks to have presents under the tree and to see the little pile grow leading up to Christmas. It’s preference.

This is 100% part of the fun - that way the kids have time to look at and wonder about what could be inside the presents. My brother and I used to examine them all carefully and try to guess what each was, this occupied us for hours. We would also pretend to be Santa and deliver the gifts. My mom always saved one or two gifts to be from Santa, those appeared Christmas morning and typically were things like board games that we could do as a family.

Are we wrong to do that? Curious. I grew up in another country and we did not celebrate Christmas.
