OP here. I should have mentioned we are giving her four PAID weeks off around the visit. Two before and two after. Plus we are getting tested. Nanny will not be at risk any more than she is now when she goes to the store. We just cannot get covid three weeks before or who knows if we can go and we have to go.

You can definitely offer an incentive of a couple thousand dollars but you are her employer and can’t dictate what she can do outside of her time at work. Online grocery shopping is very expensive because of all of the surcharges and extra tips. Plus, depending on where she likes to shop ingredients are always available at stores that provide online shopping.

This is a bit crazy. Your best option is to just tell your nanny not to come in the 2 weeks leading up to your family event (but keep paying her).

If I were that concerned, I would pay my nanny the usual amount but ask her not to come for the two or three weeks before this upcoming visit with the at-risk individual. She’s not contaminating your house by doing her own grocery shopping any more than any other daily activity of her life outside your home. Either that or pay her 3x and have her move in with you for the duration of the quarantine and not leave your house.

OP here, it’d be a request on the honor system and I’m trying to get opinions about how to do this for a short time so nanny isn’t shortchanged. For months she’s been shopping and she will again.

OP here, this feels more intrusive to me into her personal life and I doubt she’d agree to let me buy all her food. But sure, I could do this.

Why not just include her purchases in your order, and then she can take them home on the days they are delivered to your house?

Are you paying her for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? If not it isn't reasonable to ask her.

Nanny here- Groceries see A LOT more expensive online. My bosses expected me to use instacart but didn’t offer to pay extra, so in May I started going back to the stores. I’m not going into debt for groceries!! I shop at Walmart and Aldi, so keep that in mind. You will be asking her to spend a lot more on food, so you should pay for that.

I would make sure the store she goes to provides easy delivery, not all do. If she is going to have to shop at a more expensive store, you need to account for that. Otherwise, I think your plan is fine.

We have a very tight bubble but it does include our nanny, who currently goes to the grocery store in person.

We have to see an older, sick relative in 5 weeks and we want to be even more strictly locked down until that visit.

We pay our nanny very generously by DC standards. How much extra should we pay to ask her to shop online for the next 5 weeks and not go into any stores? By my estimates we spend about $80/week on delivery fees and tips for groceries (not the groceries themselves). So if I offer her an extra $400 is that sufficient? What do you think, DCUM? Thanks!
