Imagine how people would/will react if, after indoor dining is shut down on the 23rd, a restaurant says they are offering take-out only but allows patrons waiting for take out to sit down at tables, and hey, while you're sitting, do you want a drink or an appetizer? It would be illegal and rightly shut down.
I'm not as worried about Covid spread at gyms as I am about indoor dining because people can wear masks at gyms, but I do think that if we are going to do these shut downs for public health because of spiking cases, you should have to comply. Every person or company that thinks they can get away with "bending" the rules is taxing the entire system and making it more likely that the shutdowns will continue for longer and that cases will continue to rise.
This is why I quit. They are willfully breaking the law.
It really bothers me too. It will be hard for me to go back and I have over 300 classes. If it was really “open studio” and not just a front for a class, I’d be ok with them doing it, but I’m disappointed by the lying.

So there is music and the instructor is walking around talking into a mic and I can follow that or just be on my own doing Bulgarian split squats while everyone else is doing army crawls?
