As a PP said, high school tends to have larger rosters due to fall sports, etc. Many of the big clubs also do not cut after high school as they don't hold open tryouts. So any changes are typically additions from individual tryouts or people quitting/leavning.

They also have the pink team... The 2027 will most likely have an easier time breaking onto a roster mid year then the 2025. And to make M&D Black, Hero's Green, or Skywalkers Blue mid year she'd have to blow the coaches away.

Not sure what club you're with, but my DD's club is team specific and 100% based on roster size and tournaments entered. Not a money grab.

I am told clubs like to go close to 25 girls entering high school. There is a lot less movement between clubs and some girls drop out to focus on one sport in high school. So clubs like to have a buffer of players.

You can see the rosters of most of these clubs online. M&D, Hero's, and Skywalkers all seem to have between 22-24 girls on both A and B for the 25s. The 27 teams are a bit smaller except M&D since they only have one 27 team currently (assuming they'll expand to two in the next year or two). HoCo doesn't list the rosters and they tend to be smaller teams it seems, but still solid up and coming club.

Rosters tend to be larger at least on the girls side as many girls play more than one club sport.

Thanks for the rec. our issue is that our club director has a loose affiliation with one area club which she is actively pushing. Based on an initial communication, probably not the best fit.

Something else we have noticed about MD lacrosse is the roster size. Are rosters of 23-25 typical? In NJ, with a few exceptions rosters are generally 18-20 to maximize playing time.

You are moving from one great lacrosse area to another. You will be right in the heart of a lot of grat options.

I think M&D, Heroes, and Skywalkers would be great to reach out to, and ask about your daughters ability to get a mid year tryout.

These clubs aren't doing much until spring, so plenty of time to get to know them and for them to get to know your daughters.

Hi all,

this forum was recommended by a friend. Asking for some input for my two daughters-- 2025 and 2027. We are moving to the area, likely columbia/ellicot city area by the end of january due to job transfer. Both of our daughter are dedicated lacrosse players, playing on one of the top club teams in New Jersey. (ranked top 20 in US across all ages groups).

Do you know if any of the area travel teams are looking for any girls mid-year? Would hate for them to have to play rec level for a spring/summer season. Our our coach is pushing one specific club where she has an affiliation but wanted to ask around to see if there are any other realistic mid-year options.
