Cellular shades seem like dust traps to me.

OP-don't have because my DH calls them dust collectors. I looked for washable but it seemed like a pain in the butt and it would be too expensive to dry clean as often as he would want it done. We have Plantation shutters.

Cellular/honeycomb shades, and blinds in our house, as well as hardwood floors with no rugs, because of allergies. I grew up with incredibly plush velvet curtains my father sewed for our windows, when we lived in a drafty house up north. I remember going with him to the fabric shop, the only Asian man in the place. Alas, one of my children would not tolerate that level of dust mite and pollen trap.

We have wood or faux wood blinds on all our windows. In a few rooms, we just liked the look of a few window treatments so we have them, but most rooms are blinds only.

Blinds are fine.

I have dust mite allergy and use blinds only. The only exception is a couple of French doors. On those I used cotton twill curtains.

If you have a dust problem just use blinds or shutters. I don’t have dust allergies so I don’t have a problem with curtains.

Nothing wrong with Roman shades. I had those but they can get stained over time. I replaced them with cellular shades which are easier to clean. In our bedroom we have thick velvet curtains. We occasionally vacuum them. Though they do absorb dust for sure.

We've only ever rented, so we've basically always lived with whatever blinds the landlord installed. Everyone on this forum talks about window treatments; please explain to me! I look at them and see dust mite heaven, and goodness knows I don't want to take them down and wash them every month. What's wrong with some roman shades or nice wooden (not metal) blinds?
