I took low dose aspirin for my last two pregnancies. My youngest is 8, and I’m 46. My OB was ahead of the curve.

Generally speaking, don’t second guess your OB.

I took it fir my se old pregnancy at age 38.

I was 41 when DD#2 was born back in May. No one I saw during that pregnancy ever mentioned taking aspirin, including the MFM I saw for frequent monitoring due to my age. Highest BP reading during this pregnancy was 120/70, and that was at the very end. I had my first DD at 37, no issues with BP during that pregnancy, either.

I also have subchorionic hematoma and am on baby aspirin (but I have multiple risk factors). I asked about the bleeding risk and my doctor said there is no increased bleeding risk from subchorionic hematomas if you only take on dose of baby aspirin a day. He said you’d have to take 2.5 doses for it to increase your risk. So hopefully that makes you feel better about that OP.

This is the first time I’ve heard of this. I’m now 42 and due in 2 weeks. My blood pressure has not been elevated at all. Usually around 110/70 or lower. But it’s my third pregnancy, and I did not have high blood pressure or preeclampsia in previous pregnancies. I am with an ob office in Fairfax.

I had no risk factors other than age. I couldn’t take the aspirin due to some other issues and developed pre-e. My blood pressure is still high 3 years after giving birth and is probably permanently so at this point. Take the aspirin.

I was on it to get pregnant and both RE and MFM just told me to stay on. (The RE typically stops at 10weeks and MFM starts at 12 weeks so I had wondered about the two week gap.)

I wanted to add that my hesitancy was that my dad developed an ulcer from daily baby aspirin.

The ulcer risk is low. Pregnancy is not that long compared to how long people take daily baby aspirin for heart issues. Plus, the risk of ulcer from baby aspirin is exacerbated with things that you don't see in pregnant women, such as smoking, drinking, being over 75, etc.

I had a series of miscarriages this year after a healthy pregnancy some years ago. My new OB said if I wanted to try again she'd put me on aspirin. She said it wasn't technically approved but that anecdotally she and her colleagues see it helping.

Oops, I missed the fact that you already had a previous pregnancy. It's my first pregnancy so technically I meet the two moderate risk factors.

Yes. I'm on it. It's standard of care and recommended by ACOG.

I was a little surprised that my OB nurse practitioner told me to start a baby aspirin at 12 weeks to help prevent pre-eclampsia. I’m 39 years old and had a healthy pregnancy at 36. I do not have high blood pressure and am not obese. I’ve been looking at the ACOG (American College of Gynecology) recommendations for starting baby ASA, and it seems like it’s only recommended for women who have one high risk factor or multiple moderate risk factors. My only risk factor is age. So now I don’t trust the OB as I’m not sure she is following evidence based medicine and am also nervous since I have a small subchorionic hematoma (and they aren’t doing any ultrasounds to make sure it resolves).

Any other AMA moms being started on aspirin just for age? I go to Physicians and Midwives in VA if anyone else belongs to that practice.
