My DD, who attends a Catholic HS and is a B+ student, was offered significant merit aid at Loyola Chicago and Loyola New Orleans. She also received decent merit aid from St. John's U.

This. In the corridor, Fordham is a terrific heavyweight name, and the alums seem extremely loyal.

I have family in NY with several Manhattan grads and a current student. All loved it. Older grads (mid-career) had great job placement coming out of college (in NYC/suburbs) and are successful. Younger grads did very well in grad school placement. Current student happy. Seems like a happy, tight-knit student body, not super diverse especially geographically but for the right kid I think it's a great school.

My friend's daughter goes there and really likes it. She went to St John's and graduated a few years ago.

My aunt (much younger than my mom due to her dad's second marriage) went there and really enjoyed it. She had a degree in accounting, and had a reasonably successful career before becoming a SAHM.

Thanks for this information PP. My son currently attends a Christian Brothers school so that's where I found out about Manhattan College. His school is pretty tough academically so I'm not sure if he will be able to get into Fordham. Plus the cost of college these days is completely nuts.

I went to Fordham, Manhattan is in a safer but further out section of the Bronx. I've played tennis at Van Cortlandt park, it is massive and fairly safe. The area is fairly diverse, some fun Irish bars are on the other side of the park. Manhattan doesn't have as much of a reputation as Fordham but is a solid school with a good reputation in New York. That's on our list too but I don't know if he will have the GPA/SATs for Fordham. Hopefully, we can visit both on the same trip.....sometime.

It's in the northern part of NYC- suburban like setting near van Cortlandt park, however VERY accessible to Manhattan. I think it could be an ideal setting- semi suburban setting with very quick access to the city.

My daughter wanted Manhattan-based schools that she applied site unseen because of Covid. They are rolling admissions so she got in a few weeks ago. We did a drive-through of New York recently and had a little bit of a hard time getting any sense at the campus. It’s about 3 miles from Fordham so up in that area not really in the heart of Manhattan at all. Online it looks like a great choice for kids who are interested in a small Catholic experience. Maybe also look at Loyola Maryland? That campus is quite charming.

Does anyone have any personal knowledge of this school? My DS is a B+ student at a Catholic HS. This was one of the colleges on our list but I don't know much about it. We are looking at other Catholic colleges near and far too. Thanks!
