The area is fairly diverse, some fun Irish bars are on the other side of the park. Manhattan doesn't have as much of a reputation as Fordham but is a solid school with a good reputation in New York. They have been decent at basketball and had some results in the NCAA tournament, so a fair amount of people outside of NY will have heard of them. I believe they are a Christian Brothers school, which is good education-wise for a Catholic school.
Loyola is a good comparison actually, both solid academically and in safe neighborhoods with good city access - but also both campuses can feel a bit dead especially on weekends.
Thanks for this information PP. My son currently attends a Christian Brothers school so that's where I found out about Manhattan College. His school is pretty tough academically so I'm not sure if he will be able to get into Fordham. Plus the cost of college these days is completely nuts.
