Coaches we’ve spoken to say less special effects and music and more off the ball movement and game film so they can they can see what your kid is doing throughput the game.

+1 on the 20-min clips.

My daughters both created theirs using iMovie. They were able to clip highlights from game film provided by our club, and then added the highlight circle to show where they were on the field. We had a friend create a title graphic with stats and a closing graphic with contact info (player and club coach). They then uploaded to YouTube. They also saved a couple of their better games to share upon request, and made notes of strong moments in those games in case the coach wanted to forward to those plays.

The hardest part was wading through a season's worth of game film to find the best moments. Younger daughter labeled the clips to help build a good mix of skills (goals, passes, defending, etc.).

in terms of equipment many clubs have their own equipment, l ours does, but also make own different angles and sometimes the guy filming isn't paying attention. I have used my gopro, my slr on video and all those work most editing types of software. a tripod is key and don't talk during filming.

Not OP but this is a great topic...I have very little knowledge of this...what editing software do you find to be easiest, best? What do you film with or do you use the videos the club provide?
