That would suck. We don’t have a lot going on these days but like many families are hoping to get away to a socially distanced vacation of some sort. August is prime time for that for many of us working folk.

Where are you hearing this proposal from? you had one numbskull posting the Montgomery county Virgina's calendar and trying to pass it off as mcps MD's calendar.


in any case I anticipate that they will probably start around the same time as last year but will have expanded summer school to make up for kids missing so much content during this year

My guess is that they're going to have expanded summer school this year to help kids with credit recovery/missing content and skills.

Right about now I’m so envious of the families who are able to telework and homeschool their kids...it’s exhausting having to wait on decisions that other people make...

Give me a freaking break! You teachers and your complaints are never ending. You have off summers, a million holidays and get winter and spring break. You will have taught at home for 18 months. Not much to plan. Maybe not knowing the exact start date is so stressful?!? My schedule changes weekly.

Teachers don't get paid in the summer. If school staff finds out in March, that is plenty of time to know and plan. By March, hopefully we'll have a better idea on if starting early would be beneficial, like starting in early August like many schools in the South or starting second/third week of September to allow more time for people to get vaccines if they end up getting rolled out to the population in June/July. Now, counting on the BOE and Jack Smith to make a good decision on the 2021-2022 calendar by March, is probably not likely.

I was thinking it sounded late for planning FOR staff and teachers. As in, what staff and teachers will each school need--for the regular school year, any summer programs, etc.

As the pandemic surges and vaccination is just starting, I don't think they can really commit to anything for next fall yet. Or if they do, it'll have a yuge asterisk next to it.

It is late, but I actually think waiting to decide makes a lot of sense in this case. Hopefully by March the numbers will look much different, we’ll have a good sense of how the vaccine distribution is making progress, and we can make a realistic plan for next school year.
