How do you find a house to rent at the greenbrier?

just go to the Mandarin in DC

Skip Nemacolin. It feels tacky and gaudy. Food was not good at all. We like the Omni Bedford Springs but it is definitely not at the level of a Ritz or Four Seasons (nor do I think they claim to be). The Greenbrier is more upscale than the Homestead but we actually prefer the Homestead. Never been to either in the winter so I have no idea what there is to do at either in colder months.

DH, DD and I spent a weekend at the Greenbrier last January and enjoyed it. Our room wasn’t as nice as a RC, but it’s an old place with lots of history that has tons of fun stuff to do. It’s charming.

For a more intimate and service feel in line with a St Regis, I would recommend the club level at the Chateau at Nemacolin, or the Windsor Club at Greenbrier.

If Ritz Carltons are also fine by you, go with "mainline" Greenbrier. They have some lovely suites and cottages. The food is a touch below what I expect at better RC properties, but pretty well done for family resort food. Greenbrier is a better choice for you than either of the Omnis or Nemacolin.

They all kind of suck in some way or another, they all have pretty average food and below average service.

I think Salamander is the nicest too - but pricey. Haven't done Nemacolin but I love Bedford Springs. It's old but well renovated and the spa is one of my all time favorites - ranked up there with the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs and the one in the Lhao Lhao in Bariloche Homestead is okay but not as quiet & nice as Bedford. Nemacolin...meh.

The Homestead is a bit more old school resort. I liked it for me and my son because of the big rooms and nice outdoor space. It reminded me of the northeast resorts I went to as a kid. Kind of waspy, not super “exciting” and we were all okay with that. The Ritz would have been considered very “showy”.

The Homestead was not impressive imo.

I think the Salamander is the nicest in terms of hotel rooms, but there's not much to do there, which is why I think it gets a bad rap. The grounds are nice, but the pool is meh.

I was unimpressed by the Homestead. It feels rundown. Greebrier is nice enough, but kind of stuffy. I also thought Salamander was nice, but it gets a bad rap on this site and I'm not sure why...

We also like Ritz, Four Seasons, St Regis type places and I don’t think any of these feel similar.

I was disappointed when we went to Homestead.

We rented a townhouse at Nemacolin and it was nice. We did not stay at the main building because of covid but it looked nice.

I thought Salamander was the nicest and close.

Have stayed in a room at the greenbrier as well as a house on the grounds. It is a nice resort with a full suite of amenities from dining to spa to shooting and other outdoor activities. Have also visited the homestead but not the others. Have stayed at st. Regis and ritz from cities to aspen. I don’t think you get the same level of service at greenbrier. The staff are not as refined and well trained. But the facilities are good and if you are looking for a close trip, I think you will be pleased.

Which would you recommend for a couple? We typically like to stay at Ritzes/St. Regis and it's hard to tell if any of these feel high end.
