Nature is already not taking its course when you’re doing IVF with PGD. You are literally selecting which embryo to transfer. IVF is a miracle treatment that helps many struggling people conceive, but it’s not exactly natural.

+1. This is an infertility forum. People always react negatively to gender selection as if these are people simply loaded and doing IVF for fun or to get the gender they want.

Won't want a boy if I have AMA because males are more susceptible to genetic diseases. I would rather have a girl.

I wouldn’t, just because I wouldn’t care enough (I actually wanted #2 to be a girl but I got a boy and man am I obsessed with that guy).

But I mean, if you really want a boy, go for it.

I would ask your doctor. They will probably say that the risks of autism in boys versus girls due to age aren’t drastic enough to warrant making a decision based on that.

The people saying/judging they wouldn’t do sex selection at all are fairly useless here since that isn’t what you asked. To provide another perspective on that front, I and a close friend both inclined to do gender selection for our second since we’re each doing IVF and with PGD anyway. I wouldn’t go through IVF a specifically to choose gender, but I don’t think it’s a big deal once you’re going through IVF and PGD anyway.

me either..... I have a girl who likes all things “ boy “ wmd j gate that expression because what makes things for boys? She wears clothes marketed to boys, loves her bike, climbing trees, Legos.... does not play with dolls , hates sparkles and all things pink. You get what you get and you don’t get upset.

Are you using IVF? If you’re not, the older your DH gets the more likely you are to have a boy because those are the faster swimmers and the others don’t endure as long.

Haha! I might consider gender selection fir a girl...

I would do a girl in your case. Much better to have two the same than one of each, plus the autism thing, do a girl.

We have a DD already (conceived naturally 4 years ago) and would like to balance with a boy next time. I am 35 and DH is 38. I know we are on the older side, and boys are more at risk for autism. We actually have a couple of cases of autism already in our extended family (both boys), where the parents were around the same age.
