ask your mother if she would be willing to come up for a month! don't assume she will, but IF she is willing, then the nanny can leave with your blessing on Jan 30.

Would you be willing to look at preschools outside of DC if OSSE doesn't work out as hoped?

Agree. Sounds like you are looking into schools and so should let the nanny go.

Yeah, let the nanny take the job.

My son was enrolled in preschool that did not reopen. It isn't going to reopen until the summer at the earliest. My son got a virtual spot at one of the OSSE expansion preK-3 schools. The school has 2 in person classes and say they want to open the third class but are waiting for OSSE to approve it. He is guaranteed a spot when the new class opens but we don't know when that will be. I have a nanny but my son isn't really getting any "enrichment." My nanny just told me that she had the opportunity to go work for a new family closer to where she lives and has the potential to be a longer term gig. She asked me how long I was going to need her.
I want to be fair to her. The job wouldn't start until February but I feel like I need to let her know soon whether she can take the job.
I've also put my son on some waitlists for other preschools but nothing has panned out yet. Do you think that OSSE is going to allow more expansion? Other preschools? Will we have an idea of what the plans are before Christmas? Do I just let my nanny take the job and hope for the best. I could probably get my mom to come up for another month or so in February to bridge a gap but I don't want to hire another nanny. My son needs to be in school.
