The mayor hated her.

I read this opinion piece in the Washington Post by Rockville city council member, David Myles:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/local-opinions/lois-neuman-rockville-forced-out-election/2020/12/03/c702be1a-33f6-11eb-a997-1f4c53d2a747_story.html

It says that the council voted 3-2 against maintaining Lois Neuman as the Chair of Rockville’s Board of Supervisors of Election. Previously, she was the most important supervisor of the city's elections. Myles argues that she did a great job supervising the last election and there was no basis to deny her the re-appointment that she sought. He implies that this action by the mayor & council was intended to somehow undermine democracy. However, Myles provides a frustratingly little amount of detail on the situation.

Why did the council vote to get rid of her? What is the impact of this? Does anybody have any more insight?

Thanks!
