I bet there has to be someone local who would do something like that but I would ask to see what they have done before they start cutting your dress up. I sent mine to a place in Utah to make my christening gown, they did a good job. The only thing that scared me was shipping it and having the anxiety of waiting for it and hoping it would look good.

They certainly can, and my son did, but some people get funny about putting their boys in a baptismal gown. I think they're adorable.

This doesn't help you in terms of finding someone who can do it for you, but my mom also made my daughter's baptismal gown from my wedding dress. She was almost one, so the standard patterns didn't fit her. The dress turned out really well though!

OH, WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA! Almost makes me wish I were religious. I am not Christening my child but love, love, love this idea for those who are. My wedding gown is in a box taking up space and I'm quite sure it will never get worn again. This is such a really BEAUTIFUL idea! Good luck, OP!!

I did this with my wedding dress, too, and I loved it. I figure, the chances of anyone wearing my dress again are slim, the way fashions change, but a baptism gown you'll pass down.

Although I will say, maybe it's an Italian Catholic thing, but I just put my little boy in a gown and didn't give it a moment's thought.

My stepmother made my daughter's gown from my wedding dress. I think it's a wonderful idea to make your child's christening gown from your wedding dress. So special!
There a bunches of patterns out there. So she can definitely work with you on the "convertability."

I would like to convert my wedding dress into a Christening gown for my daughter who will be baptized this Spring. I found a lady in Canada who does beautiful conversions, but I was wondering if there was anyone local that someone recommends who does similar work. The lady in Canada's website is below:

I would love to have a christening gown made from my dress that is somewhat unisex if possible, but maybe something with a detachable skirt that can be for a girl but removed for a boy? We plan on having several kids so I would love to have something made that could be worn by all of them.
