Something to help them communicate or record memories for the dad.
I can’t imagine doing this during a pandemic. She needs a babysitter. Damn.

If the kids are close enough in age where the older one is also still in a crib, a few new crib sheets would be helpful.

Make sure she has space for stuff. Surely with a second she has stuff from her first? How about home delivery meals? Babies don't need that much.

Smaller size clothes could be useful if the babies are born in different seasons. Mine are both the same sex and both summer babies, but if I had a winter baby, the clothes seasons would have been really off in the 3 and 6 month sizes (they mostly just wore sleepers as newborns).

Socks, I always lose baby/toddler socks

Different pacifiers for the baby to try

Fun “bath” type stuff, like those hooded towel/washcloth sets and bath toys

Diapers in size 2 or 3. They outgrow NB and 1 pretty quickly so it’s nice to have a few bags of the slightly bigger sizes around.

Bibs and burp cloths, can never have too many and they might be worn out/stained from the first baby

I just had my second. We didnt really need any new toys or clothes, although a few extra sleepers was helpful, since baby was born in a different season from my first. Diapers, wipes, aquaphor, burp cloths, one new book or toy for baby, a big brother or big sister book for older child, small toy for older child, Amazon gift card, teether, infant spoon/plate/bowl set.
I'm also irritated on your behalf. Gift card or food is so much more helpful with a second. I'm an engineer who works with a group of guys, and they nailed this whole group gift thing both times...but, they were all my age and had their own young children...so they knew EXACTLY what we needed!

I would ask her. Everyone is so different. Since its a bunch of men, how about a bunch of infant/toddler toys. Pick a bunch off Amazon that they can easily get. Snacks are difficult as not everyone eats the same things except if you know what she eats. Otherwise, diapers, wipes, outfits, and the traditional baby gear.

Blankets and onesies are classics, IMO - more means having to do laundry a bit less often!

Since there's an older child in the mix maybe also suggest some toys they would like, which as a mom I'd appreciate... the second kid's arrival can be hard on the first and I'd think that probably especially applies when one parent has to be absent to boot. These men you work with frankly sound pretty dumb about babies and new mothers (yes, I am annoyed at them on your behalf) so I doubt they'll even realize some items on the registry aren't necessarily newborn suitable.

I’ve been assigned the task of creating a gift basket for a coworker who is expecting her second via c-section, and whose husband is deployed—not sure that matters exactly, but it’s the reason the idea was conceived.

It being a second and the same gender, I thought a meal train of sorts might be a better idea (even gift cards or prepackaged items, considering COVID) but that idea was shut down by the group, who is comprised mostly of men. I then thought, also considering it’s a second and the same gender, that what would be appreciated most would be things for mom. Also shut down.

So here I am. What things would a new mom struggling on her own appreciate FOR THE BABY? Thanks in advance!
