Now I understand why my daughter passed on UVA after being admitted. Sounds like a bunch of a holes go there. I moved here from Chicago 30 years ago. No one thinks highly of UVA outside of the DMV.

Vermont is more liberal than UVA.

Large majority of states continue to reduce funding to state universities. What’s happening at UVM will happen all over if we as a society continue to lose interest in funding our institutions.

OP, we toured so just a visitor/prospect perspective. Green, attractive, but not particularly beautiful campus. Directly adjacent town of Burlington is a gem. Church Street pedestrian zone is fantastic, though we were there on a warm 60-something day, which is unusual for most of the school year. Lake Champlain is a stunner, but on a bitter February day the winds make for some brutal weather. Very outdoorsy, crunchy student body.

I currently have one DC at UVA and one at UVM. Both great schools. The DC at UVM actually had a summer internship at the UVA environmental science campus in HS - hated it. It’s not even part of the UVA campus while at UVM the environmental studies programs are front and center. Both great towns but Burlington is a completely different vibe - the lakes and outdoor recreation are a huge part of the experience. Vermont students are from all over the country - UVA pulls much more heavily from in state while UVM is only 22 percent or so in state - this also lends to a very dynamic and less “local” student body feel. If prestige is what you are after then certainly UVA ranks higher. But for DCs area of study, personality and interests Vermont was the much better choice and it has been a phenomenal experience - academically, socially, and recreationally. Highly recommend. Go visit. And, if your DC would be competitive for UVA as mine was, there is an honors college option as well as generous merit scholarships. DC will earn a masters in 4 years thanks to many AP classes for less than the cost of 3 years of tuition.

You HAVE to be a troll... I'm gonna guess that IF they are a Virginia, they would choose UVM over UVA because 1. they can't get into UVA and 2. they don't want to go there. LOL simple as that.

I only knew UVM back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, my best friend transferred there so I visited a few times. Super fun, great town. I'm surprised that UVM seems to have fallen in the rankings though.

I know 2 kids who are freshman there now and both love it. Great job with covid and they are having a good experience

Thanks, PP! Who is this UVA booster? Not everyone even wants to go to UVA in the first place! The left-leaning part is the only thing that (somewhat) concerns me - but then most colleges are pretty liberal.

Crazy rude. You do realize not everyone values UVA the way you do, right? UVM has tons to offer that is very different. I didn’t go to UVM but I have lived in Vermont. Burlington is a great college town with tons of stuff to offer.
