If your MIL was supporting a family member received guests and condolences through the 4th and your kids typically visit on the weekends, I would say wait until the weekend of 18th.

Given the surge, even with being careful with masks, things happen.

I read a blog this week where a Drs husband let his guard down for 20 minutes - and that was all that mattered. He grabbed a beer with at a friends house the week after Thanksgiving to celebrate his birthday …..

I WAH, DH goes to work masked, kids are home, but we aren’t seeing random people all day, every day. I mask up to grocery shop.

You are entitled to a preference. You don't have to prove you're right. Adults who respect each other honor each other's preferences. Don't ask that they agree with you. Don't wish to hear this, "oh, it's alright. We understand". That's asking too much of others.

+1. CDC guidelines are this and if no symptoms or exposures, the kid(s) are safe to visit.

We’ve been very lenient with ILs who quite literally don’t go anywhere. Our child visits occasionally, and was supposed to visit this weekend. I’m opposed and DH agrees, it’s not worth the risk. Even though they claim they wore masks, they still had an open house. We told ILs no visits until Christmas, just to be safe. They think we are being ridiculous. I get that we are upsetting the one thing they look forward to, I truly do. Are we being too cautious?


Until xmas? Why not in 7 -14 days like the rest of the world?

Last week there was a death in DH family. MIL is the matriarch and had been handling a lot. While there wasn’t a funeral, MIL sat with the immediate bereaved family member as they accepted a few guests a day bearing food and condolences. They wore masks and washed hands, and were as safe as they could be. DH has been working a lot lately and couldn’t go, so he wasn’t possibly exposed to anything.
