More votes for bottom. I thought I'd hate it, but no, it's perfect.

Bottom. Also hate when vacation rentals have a side by side. Way too narrow.

I love my bottom freezer. I always had them in the past but lived for ~8 years with a side-by-side that was in my house when I bought it. The side freezer held a lot, but most of what was there got lost at the back and bottom. With the bottom-freezer, I can see everything, plus the fridge space above is much more usable, and there's nothing I have to get down on my knees to find.

I told DH to get a bottom freezer one, but he insisted on getting a side freezer one for modern cool look. I hate it so much, and there are not much space for my frozen food, and I have to put frozen pizza vertically (often slides down through the rack).
Actually, I like the old fashioned top freezer one (easy for storage) better than the bottom freezer one.

Bottom freezer. Agree with pp about bags falling out and the smaller shelves are awkward for larger items.

We went from bottom to side when we moved. I can't wait for the side to die so that we can replace it with a bottom.

I have had a side freezer a couple of times in rentals and hate them. Cant get a frozen pizza in there, stuff fits awkwardly, I think there’s just a lot less space overall. The house we own now had one when we moved in. It was the first appliance I replaced. We put in a bottom freezer and I love it. We have a small extra fridge in the basement, and that has a top freezer and it’s fine. I think for a small fridge, the top freezer is fine and may work best, but for a larger main fridge, a bottom drawer is ideal.

I have a side by side but am planning on getting a bottom freezer. It looks better to me, although I've never had one. I hate the side by side because most freezer stuff comes in bags, and the side by side really doesn't hold bags very well. They don't stack on top of each other and are constantly falling out, like when you open the freezer or want to find something. I'm thinking a bottom freezer will be better in that regard.

Bottom drawer. It wasn't love at first for me, but after a bit, it definitely is better than the on top model and for sure better than the side by side model. For us, the bigger fridge was important and we have a second freezer for the bulk freeze items.

I didn't want a bottom drawer model at all, but my wife talked me into it. She was right (but don't tell her I said that!). We find it much better to have the wide fridge, and the freezer is much more accessible and useful than I expected it to be.

Which one is more space efficient and useful, a freezer that is to the side of the fridge, or a freezer below the fridge?
