No response is expected when teachers are so overwhelmed and overworked right now. Especially when the person who sent the message should have just sent it to the front office to begin with. Under normal times, perhaps the teacher would have written back, I hope they feel better soon, or I hope you're feeling better, but not now.

It’s nice and courteous to respond. Most of you non responders have low expectations and it’s sad.

I never email the teacher when my DD is out sick. I change her pick up patrol and that's it. I don't expect a response. Now if she's out a week a check in to make sure she's fine would be nice but not expected.

Nope. Did you say "We think she has Covid and she's in the hospital intubated"? No, no you did not. Your kid got a cold. Boo hoo.

Not necessarily. As a parent I wouldn't expect a response, I would send it as an FYI.

My kid was just sick for 2 days and missed school. I notified the front office attendance line, as school policy dictates.

When my kids have missed school in non-pandemic times, I have notified the front office (and sometimes teachers as well) but never expected an answer.

Maybe if your child misses more time, the teacher will be in touch, but now is not the time to be annoyed at something so minor.

If you had called to leave a phone message saying "Larlo will be absent today," would you expect a return call? Many of us are in the habit of sending emails that say, essentially, "10-4" as a courtesy, but the practice is not necessary for most communications.

Nope. The message was conveyed. If there was more I needed to know after the doctors appointment, then I figure you will update me.

DD was sick for 2 days and I sent 2 emails to the teacher about it including that she had a doctors appt. She never wrote me back. Would you be annoyed?
