Same experience and I know the dud teacher DS had retired a couple years after he was in that class. My kids are in HS now and the very-long-term principal retired a year or so ago, so I don't know if the culture has shifted any. One thing I appreciated was that it seemed the school was very oriented to supporting working parents. Very few events during the school day where they wanted parents to show up, PTA meetings in the evenings, family events on weekends only, very little asking of parents to volunteer. Very well utilized extended day program.
I think the only thing disliked about the school is it has a pretty crappy playground relative to other schools and we were told the PTA can't even fundraise to upgrade it because it is technically county property not school property.
