OK, I really don't understand this. We practice/play almost exclusively on turf fields (maybe 1 or 2 games a season on a grass field). Every kid on this U15 lower level travel team wear regular cleats for everything. Is this bad?

How about the turf fields without pellets? Examples: Witman HS and Germantown Soccerplex, I see kids wipeout on a regular basis wearing normal cleats, would turf cleats work better?

If she's not having any problems then the cleats are probably fine but if she starts to develop problems maybe it's time to invest in some turf shoes or maybe some good cushion insoles for the cleats would help.

Nike has stud patterns for artificial grass. Safer than their normal blade stud pattern and provides less risk of knee and ankle injuries.

Takes me back to my days of playing men’s Sunday soccer back in the UK. Screw-in studs were the best for the those muddy fields we often played on.

I agree. Only thing is that there are much more selections of FG shoes compared to turf shoes at least for Nike.

My experience is to wear turf or artificial grass shoes on new turf fields (not the old "astroturf" carpet) when dry, only FG "cleats" when it is wet/icy. There is too much grip into turf for cleats when dry, which increases the risk for injuries. At least that's how I've seen and done it.

SG are not allowed to be used in most if not all youth leagues in the USA because they are metal.

We've always worn cleats on turf fields, because all of the turf fields that we've played on have been the type designed for cleats. I think most of them are like that nowadays, at least the outdoor ones.

Turf fields are much harder than grass fields. Hence, I feel that turf shoes might prevent strain ankles and cushions the feet more than cleats on turf fields.
If the turf field is wet, my DD would wear turf shoes though.
As you can tell, she prefers to wear turf shoes more than cleats.

I believe that turf shoes are for like that fake carpet looking stuff almost like felt. These new "turf" fields require cleats. If you wore cleats on that felt stuff, that's were it hurts the kids' feet.

I’m one of those parents that only have 1 pair of shoes for soccer DD only uses cleats no turf shoes
Question is am I doing harm by only using cleats? Will she have irreparable damage from this? And if not why do so many parents get turf shoes does it make the player that much better? Thanks!
