I want to echo the above loudly for those saying milk isn’t necessary:

Yes, milk isn’t necessary however VITAMIN D IS NECESSARY.

I’ve only found one brand of whole milk yogurt that adds vitamin d to their kids yogurt (Stonyfield) and they don’t add an adequate amount. Two cups of milk gives a child adequate vitamin d.

Mini dixie cup 1/2 filled with milk. Keep topping up. Yes she will wear some of it, but you will get some milk in & she will be learning the skills to drink from an open cup.

Kids need what is in milk.

And people need what’s in beef. But they don’t need beef.

NP here. But it’s so much easier to give milk than run around finding other foods with those benefits. And that isn’t true with beef.

Milk isn’t necessary. Don’t go back to the bottle. Try other cups and other ways for her to get calcium in case she doesn’t drink it. Neither of my kids liked milk out of the bottle. It’s fine.

My toddler went off milk except from an open cup. When he wasn’t drinking enough milk, we gave him vitamin d drops and pushed yogurt and cheese.

Vitamin D is crucial - especially now as researchers have found those with adequate vitamin d had milder experiences with covid - but always essential to growth and brain development. Your child will not produce enough vitamin d from sunshine.

Its easy if the kid will drink it. If not they can just get those things from other places.

My DS completely refused milk out of a cup starting around that age. I tried every day for a few months, including every type of cup I could possibly find, but didn’t go back to bottles. So, he just stopped drinking milk completely. The pediatrician said it was fine, and he ate lots of cheese and yogurt to make up for it. He’s 3 now and perfectly healthy (and still hates milk!).

My older DD on the other hand, went on a short strike once we switched from bottles to cups. After about a week of no bottles, she finally gave in and started drinking out of a cup. She’s now 6 and also hates milk like her brother at this point.

It’s only been a day. Haven’t you ever just not wanted something for a day?

Try a special milk cup (a cup you only use for milk).

Milk is a great source of calories and mostly vitamin D so keep trying. Otherwise you’ll have to supplement with vitamin D drops daily.

DD used to take 6 oz before her one nap and 6 oz before bedtime (plus a little with cereal in the morning). I started transitioning her to a 360 cup (which she uses for water). The first time she clearly craved the milk, refused and cried about the cup but eventually drank 2/3 of her usual intake. But yesterday evening and before today’s nap she just refused the milk, without fussing. It’s the first time she goes 24 hr without any milk. She didn’t have any dairy for lunch.

Is she going on some sort of a strike until I reinstate the bottle or do some young toddlers that age no longer need milk?
