I was one of the Winifred-likers, FYI, and I also considered Edith. Edie is contemporary-sounding and somewhat common these days, esp as a nickname for Eden. So you could have it both ways. And to me Edith is just pretty, in the same vein as Frances or Helen.

Re: Minerva, I have to ask: is this your first kid? I gave one of my kids an outré name and don’t regret it, but I have another kid with SN and am glad it worked out that he got the more popular, generally-liked name; it requires something extra to have to explain or spell an unusual name to people, and you and the kid may not enjoy that every day, in all situations. (I always will remember our roofer, who was not a very polished person, making a really blunt, mean comment about how ugly and odd my child‘s name was in front of him). It’s not Covid friendly, but I like the test of using the potential name at Starbucks to see how it goes.

Ok, despite triggering my natural contrariness, you have all convinced to come down firmly against Winifred. My goodness.

But we do like that genre of name. I plugged it into Nameberry to see what else we might be overlooking, and these are the “similar names” that appealed to me. Thoughts, suggestions?
